Welcome Post

Welcome to my blog! The classic novel study gives us students a chance to read a new novel. It allows us to explore other types of books and widen our span of knowledge. The classic novel I chose to read for my Independent Study Project, was The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo. When given the list of possible book choices, I was immediately overwhelmed with all of the titles and authors. Should I go with something I haven't heard of before, or something completely new to me? I finally decided to pick The Hunchback of Notre Dame because while researching online, many people had a lot of good things to say about it. I also haven't watched either of the movies made about it but I hope to be able to understand and enjoy those movies after reading this novel.
Throughout this project I hope to discover why classic novels deserve to be titled "classic novels". What makes them so much better than all the other novels? Is it because they are older? Or is it because they teach morals and values the writers don't usually write about nowadays? I will explore my novel in detail through setting, characters and theme. Overall, I hope this experience is enjoyable and I hope that I learn something I will never forget from reading my classic novel.
